Riverbend cross-country ski trails is my absolute favorite place to run in this city. I have a 5.6 km loop that I try to run at least once a week. Think hills. Think fresh air and trees. I love it. I only wish the trail was longer. Almost always I listen to a Trail Runner Nation podcast. Love listening to ultra runners share experiences and tips. I want to run an ultra!
Okay… yes I must slow down. I’m not ready to tackle the extra distance just yet. I’m still trying to figure out the marathon. But one day I will be mentally and physically read. And I can’t wait.
So let’s back track to yesterday…. I ran a leisurely 17 km. It was my first long run since Calgary. I couldn’t wait to get away from it all and lose myself on the road. I was worried slightly that it would be painful since I haven’t exactly been following the 10 per cent rule. You know gradually increase your mileage each week by a max of 10 per cent. I’m a rule breaker.
My body was forgiving. I guess those CrossFit WODs are doing their thing. I ran strong and relaxed. I wanted to run longer but I knew it wouldn’t be wise. I felt great when I woke up this morning too. I went for a hard run at Riverbend. I love nature.
As I enter my third week in marathon training, I feel confident and motivated. In just over three weeks I will race the run portion of the Sylvan Lake Half Ironman. Can’t wait. It’s going to be so much fun.
