I made sure to give my body the full stretch treatment after work. I hate stretching. Oh how I hate stretching. But I will stretch. It won’t kill me, right? Oh yes, I will continue to stretch my ankles, my shoulders, my legs, my back etc. Oh yes, I will stretch.
I went to bed relatively early and woke up feeling refreshed. I jumped out of bed with no complaints from any body parts. See? Rest = good.
An early morning assignment had me out the door before 8 a.m. I also wanted to watch Michelle finish her first triathlon. I’d promise to run her up the hill to the finish line. I was so excited for her. This was her first race… ever! Of course she hated the running part. Seems everyone I talked to today hated the running but loved the cycling and the swimming bit. What’s wrong with these people?
As I waited at the bottom of the hill, I was struck by the amount of women competing. And they weren’t spring chickens. Awesome. I was so inspired. I wanted to hug these women, particularly the ones who looked like they could be my grandmother. Has your grandma ever run a triathlon?
Finally Michelle was coming in the distance. She looked strong. She called, “let’s get this done.” We ran up the winding hill together. I kept talking so she wouldn’t notice she was running up this steep hill. Happy to be part of her journey, I’ll always remember her smiling face when she crossed the finish line!
