Organizers and runners both say it was one of the toughest marathons in recent years because of the soaring temperatures higher than 30C. I can’t imagine running for hours in that heat. The organizers permitted runners to defer to next year’s race.
Not sure how many runners took advantage of the offer. Imagine training and mental preparation for so many months/years only to defer to the next year. I would have raced. I think I would have tossed my lofty time goals aside and suffered along with the other thousands of runners.
The winner was Wesley Korir with a time of 2:12:40. This was the second-slowest Boston victory since 1985. Last year’s winner and world record holder, Geoffrey Mutai, dropped out with stomach cramps. That’s tough.
As you know my goal is to qualify for Boston either this season or next. It’s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication on my part. Like I said yesterday I was so not feeling a run. Today I bounced back with a strong 10 km run straight after work. Sometimes there’s good days and other days there’s bad days.
