Running at night has its hazards. Forget not being able to see or the fear of getting jumped by some junkie. I’m more worried about the furry nocturnal creatures.
You never know when you’re going to cross paths with a four legged animal.
Tonight I startled two deer and spotted at least four pairs of eyes in the darkness. Thankfully the deer did not charge me or try to bite me (I heard that happens). They just trotted off quickly in the opposite direction.
The eyes, on the other hand, tracked my every move.
I came out of this narrow patch of the trail to a wide open space. I could see the blinking pairs of eyes on both sides of the trails. I had two choices. I could turn around or I could keep running.
I picked up my pace. I turned up my iPod. I ran fast.
I could feel the eyes on me as I closed my eyes ran quickly down this darkened trail. I tried not to be spooked but I was. I didn’t know if the eyes (and their bodies) would take chase or simply stare.
I am alive to write this post so you can guess how it turns out. Moral of the story? Wear a headlamp at night.
