Don’t judge me: I spend more $$ on running accessories than my daily wardrobe

Audrey picked up compression socks a few weeks ago. And yesterday when I came across them, I knew I had to buy some too. Okay forget that I shouldn’t be spending any more right now (let alone $55 for a pair of socks). But I had to have them!

Many people wear compression technology for medical reasons. Serious or elite athletes wear the socks or pants or whatever to help with recovery or to make them run faster.

The socks help get the blood flowing in the legs and help reduce the strain and damage incurred running. More than anything they help with recovery. Since my left leg is still little out of sorts, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to wear them.

The store owner said he wears his compression socks on the airplane.  We all know how our bodies feel after sitting in an airplane for hours. He said his legs feel wonderful after the flight.

Here’s an article from Runner’s World that explains a little more in detail.

My only regret? The socks are white.

Three Hours Later

I love these socks. I ran like the wind and into the wind. My legs felt fantastic. Okay. I know it’s mostly mental at this point but I did feel really good out there. I needed a good run. My feelings are all over the map about the marathon. I fear I didn’t train hard enough or eat well enough. Ugh. I know. I know. It’s just pre-race jitters. I am so freaking excited. Four days.

  1. I wore compression socks when I flew to Asia last year, and they were great! No fat ankles for me! Never thought about wearing them for sports, but it totally makes sense. Good luck, lady! Knock those New Yorkers' socks off! Lucy ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I picked up pair a few weeks ago. I mostly wear them after long runs or really hard runs, haven't worn them while running yet. I think they help but it's hard to tell. I definitely still feel sore in my upper legs, but no swelling in the my ankles and feet after a long run…. although I use "long" sparingly, because my long runs lately have been 10 km! haha! Good luck on Sunday! I will be cheering you on from GP

  3. Thanks, ladies! Well the ones I bought are "race" compression socks – not that I think there's much difference. But I felt wonderful wearing them! Thanks Tiff! And Lucy I hope to see you soon! I will give you a shout when I get sorted in O-Town. Korean food? Yes!
