the lore of running

I think my editor threw down a challenge this morning. While I was finishing my column for tomorrow’s paper, Fred yelled something from his office about barefoot running. He showed me a story into today’s sports section about “foot striking” and “bare foot running.” Now that I am a running columnist, I am an expert on all things running. (Don’t ask me how this happened).

Then he says, “Anyone can run Barefoot. Anyone can run in the snow. But who runs barefoot in the snow?” I looked at him and said, “Not me.”

And that was the end of it… for now.

I’ll check in Edmonton while I am there if the Running Room carries those Vibram Five Fingers. I admit after reading Born to Run, Barefoot Ted piqued my interest. When I studied tae kwon do in Korea, we did everything in our barefeet, including sprints and jogs but it was inside.

Anyway, that was this morning. I ran another speedy 5k tonight. I finished work early and I didn’t want to wait two and a half hours to run (that’s when the “elites” were running) so I went off myself.

I’m on call this weekend so squeezing a run in may be a challenge.

  1. i'll carry the scanner if need be, but we ARE running on sunday!!!!! haha.

  2. Great job on getting out to run.I have heard mixed stuff about the VFF's but they sure have peaked my interest. Edmonton should sell them but I am not sure about the RR selling them. You can go online to the VFF website and check where close to you they sell them if you are ever super interested. I tried them on… really liked them but I have to wait.Hopefully you get a good run in this weekend.

  3. Hey there gals. Heath and I bought the Vibram 5 fingers last summer after Heath took a fitness training in the states. They spoke highly of them!! We got ours at Fitter First in Calgary. Weird to wear at first, but we wore them lots, camping, walking etc….. So, if you want to see them, let us know!!
