Rolling with the homies: Football potluck

Our team’s potluck is tomorrow night. I didn’t put much thought into what I should make until Mo started bullying me to bring spianch salad. I don’t feel like bringing a salad. Everyone will expect the vegetarian to bring salad. So I will not bring salad.

I got up this morning when it hit me. Hey, I should bring something Asian or Korean.

Kimbap is sushi in Korean. “Kim” means seaweed and “Bap” is rice. Literally kimbap means seaweed rice. Sushi is a Japanese word referring to the vinegar rice used in the making. Sushi is not raw fish. Sushi is a japanese meal using seaweed and rice. If you want raw fish, you eat Sashimi. (A pet peeve of mine that I had to share.)

Bruce and Laurence came over to help with the tedious task of chopping the veggies. Actually Laurence and I chopped the veggies as Bruce was running late so he poured the rice into the rice maker for us.

In all fairness Bruce did most of the rolling. I think he thought we would totally mess things up. Believe me I have been to enough orange restaurants to know better. They turned out pretty good and we sampled one before I wrapped the ones up in tinfoil for the party. I hope the girls like them.

I went to the Korean grocery on Bank to pick up some kimchi. I did not have the time or energy to make kimchi. I remember the one time I made kimchi with my kindergarden class. That was enough to make me give up kimchi for a long time. You don’t want to know what these little kids were doing to the cabbage.
