Now for those of you who have been to Thailand, who have probably been aware of all the stray dogs wandering around. Everywhere you look one can see dogs of all breeds wandering around looking hopeless. They have been either abandoned or injured. It’s pitiful. As an animal lover, my heart went out to them immediately. So when the opportunity arose where I could actually help some poor dogs, I immediately grasped it.

Thai Animal Guardians Association rescues animals that have been abandoned, injured or abused. They run a neutering and adoption program for dogs in Bangkok. But in 2005 a new chapter was opened up in Chiang Mai. The headquarters is basically at my guesthouse. I spoke with the staff and yesterday, I was able to visit the simple compound.

Housed are about 60 dogs. Each dog had a torrid past. One dog was blind. A few others had only three legs. I felt like crying. They were so excited to have people come visit and play with them. Inside the compound, there are also cats who need a home. A man and his young son stay on the compound and look after the animals.
