Driving Ms. Rhyno

Due to my predicament, I’ve been taking a taxi ride home every night. Usually the cabdrivers have no problem taking my Korean directions. But tonight, I thought it was going to be a problem. After getting into a cab tonight, I told the driver where to go and then he took out his handphone and to call someone. Into the phone, he tells his friend that he has a sick foreigner in the car so can you speak to her and get directions. At least that’s my translation. Then he hands me this phone and a voice on the other end says, good evening and that’s it. So I say yes? Then he just mubbles something. I have no clue what he is trying to say to me. Obviously this is the cabdriver’s “english speaking” friend who is supposed to ask me where I want to go. So I tell him in Korean 206 and I hand over the phone to the cabdriver. Ugh$#*! I shouldn’t shrug since I am sure the driver was simply trying to be helpful. What makes me say this is that he gets get out of the cab and opens the door for me when I reach my apartment. It made me want to take out my purse and give him a few extra thousand won.

I feel guilty taking a taxi home everyday. I feel lazy, and that I shouldn’t be wasting so much money. Granted the ride is only 3000 won but I still feel guilty.
