Today Andrea and I trekked up a very difficult track up to the top of Hwamyeong Mountain but the view was worth it. When I lived in Hwamyeong, last year, a Korean woman showed me this path. So it was nice to show someone this route. It was all up hill with no warning! When we got to the top we sat down on some sandbags. It was funny to see them there. We weren’t sitting down for more than five minutes when three Korean military men came and dropped their stuff by the sandbags. Then they conferenced for a few minutes. All I could make out was something “oeguk saram blah blah blah” Finally one of them, came up to us and told us, sitting on Korean sandbags was prohibited or something like that. I just said, “oh, you want us to get up?” So we moved over to some other sandbags and said down. It was really funny because they were all really red in the face from blushing. We kept laughing and I took these pics of them. I was afraid to take pictures directly in case they wanted to arrest me.
After Andrea pulled out a bag of peanuts and raisins and an older man came over and said, “give me some”. It was pretty funny. Then I went over and offered he and his friends some carrots. It was pretty cute and they continued to smile and nod at us.
