Pigeon mountain

Another rip up Pigeon Mountain (photos)

I haven’t spent enough time on mountain peaks this year. Sure I have been getting out every weekend but it has been mostly to the West Bragg Creek Trails.

I needed to clear my head so I headed to Pigeon Mountain. It was just wanted I needed after feeling a little out of sorts lately. Mountains are therapy, as they say.

The views never get old, and the grind never eases up but it is well worth the climb.

I didn’t see many people on the trail until I turned around. I met a runner who is also doing Sinister 7 in a few weeks. Update: It was my new friend Katie and we have spent several kilometres together over the next year.

Pigeon Mountain

This mountain was named Pic de Pigeons in 1858 by Eugene Bourgeau, the French-born botanist while on the Palliser expedition, for flocks of pigeons seen near the mountain (Wikipedia).

It was a gorgeous day with very little wind. I could have spent hours on the top just looking out across the valley.

There was just a little snow left on the mountain.

It was a great day to get out and enjoy the fresh mountain air on an old favourite trail.

I highly recommend Pigeon Mountain on those days you feel like a good grind to the summit then hammer it down on the downhill.
