Hike/Run in Bragg Creek

I joined Tina, Rachel and Andrea for some fun in Bragg Creek on Friday. I haven’t been on or near a mountain in weeks so I was craving the air. We met at 10:30 a.m., a late start for me. (Because it’s a two-hour drive to Bragg from Red Deer, I like to leave as early as possible).

Our plan was to run/hike a 10K out and back. It’s a 29K return from the Moose Mountain summit. I was fine with this because my right leg is still on the mend.

We could see the summit from this clearing on the trail. Beautiful, isn’t it? Shortly before I took this picture we witnessed a dog-on-dog attack. One dog was off leash and the other was surprised by the intruder. It was scary but fortunately no blood was drawn.

Yes there was some hiking involved. How else can we take pictures? Tina is training for a half-marathon in Vancouver next weekend. Andrea is gearing up to train for her first marathon next year. And Rachel is an overall rockstar trail runner. What better company to keep?

Oh and there were random acts of yoga. Andrea showed us she has all the right moves. (At times I wanted to do the dead body pose but it makes for a boring picture.)

There’s this beautiful meadow that is the perfect spot for photos. It’s right before you dig deep into the woods. It’s when you first catch a glimpse of the summit.

My new Altra Lone Peak 2.5 did not disappoint. Light and bouncy, they felt good on the climbs and the downhills. I still have to get used to them on the side to side movements. Overall? Awesome.

Great day overall. I love, love the trails near Moose Mountain. I like going to Bragg Creek because it’s only a two-hour drive opposed to a 2.5 drive to Canmore. I hope I can get there at least one more time before the snow falls.

  1. Crystal, your blog looks great! Hopefully you are loving the new WP set up!

It sounds like you had a great day on the mountains, despite the dog attack. Glad to hear there was no blood drawn and hopefully the pooches are okay.
