Vinnie: I am a Runner

Hello friends! Glad you stopped by today.

I’m super excited to introduce you to Red Deer’s favourite radio morning guy – Vinnie Taylor! Not only does Vinnie deliver great one-liners at the ungawdly hour of 5 a.m., he is a runner! That’s makes him all kinds of awesome in my book.

Look at that face … charming, right? Hard to believe he’s a grandfather. All that running keeps him young. Vinnie wants to run a marathon one day. He just needs a little more convincing. Please show him some gentle encouragement via Twitter @VinnieTaylor.

Now read on …

Name: Vinnie Taylor
City:
 Red Deer
Runner Since: April 2008
1. Why did you start running? What pushes you to keep going?
I started running because the Victoria radio station I was working at the time was as a major sponsor of the second largest 10 km in the country the Times Colonist 10K. So I signed up to be part of the team with absolutely no running experience. I ran the race in a cotton t-shirt and improper running shoes and finished in 1 hour and 4 minutes.

Victoria has a huge running community so I decided to get the right gear and signed up for a few clinics and have been running ever since. What pushes me to keep going is I want to keep in shape and running does that for me and also keeps the stress levels down.

2. What is your running/fitness routine for a typical week?
That depends, If I’m training for a race, five times a week. When I’m not training, I try to get in at least three runs a week.
3. First word that comes to mind when you hear the word “hills”
Are you allowed to print profanity? Not a huge fan but the benefits are incredible especially on race day.

4. Trails or pavement? Why?
I do both I love the trail system in Red Deer. It feels like you are not even running in a city. It’s so scenic and peaceful. This year I hope to do more trail running.
5. What is your favourite distance to run? Why?
I like the 10 km. It’s a great workout. And the half marathon is always a big challenge especially when you start to amp up the kilometres on the long runs.

6. Best running memory?
There’s two. When I ran My 3rd TC 10k in 50 minutes and my first half marathon in Victoria. The training was gruelling but crossing that finish line was an incredible feeling!

7. How many medals do you own?
I have a handful of medals and bibs from the races I’ve completed but they are not currently displayed.

8. Do you have any current running goals?
I just turned 50 this year and I’m thinking of doing my first marathon but that distance scares the hell out of me.

9. Do you run alone or with a group?
I usually go on solo runs and try to push myself but I love running with other people and try to get in some group runs with The Running Room when I can.

10. If you could tell your younger running self something, what would you say?
Start slow, sign up for a clinic and get the proper gear and most of all have fun!

Happy Thursday!

  1. Hi Vinnie,
Great to 'meet you'… 🙂 I really think you should sign up for a marathon. You can train with Crystal!!! When I first started running I said I'd never run a full. This April will be my #8! 😀
